In March 2025, Taiwan witnessed a powerful spiritual movement known as the Beacon Lighters (烽火行動), an eight-day march of fire that ignited a new wave of devotion among the nation’s youth. Beginning in Tainan, the birthplace of the gospel in Taiwan, the movement called for 100,000 young people to rise as modern-day Nazarites, wholly dedicated to God’s purpose. Traveling through six major university cities, their mission culminated in a gathering of 3,000 passionate youths in Taipei.
This was not just an event; it was a spiritual awakening. The timing was no coincidence. As the march began on March 1st, similar prayer movements were taking place across the globe, reinforcing the idea that this was a divinely appointed moment. The tour made stops in Tainan, Taoyuan, Taichung, Kaohsiung, and Hualien before its grand finale in Taipei on March 8th.
A Decade-Long Prayer Movement
The Beacon Lighters movement is part of a larger youth prayer revival that has been ongoing for over a decade. It began in 2011 with “Pray Taiwan,” led by Tainan Living Water Christian Church (台南活水基督教會), where young people traveled across the island to intercede for the nation. By 2022, the movement had evolved into the Fire Movement, incorporating leadership teams from the United States, uniting youth in prayer and missions.
Pastor Matt Chen (陳榮敏) of Tainan Living Water Christian Church has seen incredible faith breakthroughs through prayer. Before each Beacon Lighters Movement gathering, prayer walks and intense spiritual warfare sessions set the stage for revival. Young people commit to praying for hours on end, demonstrating remarkable faith and dedication. Some pray for six to seven hours daily, pressing in for God’s presence and kingdom to manifest in Taiwan.
Raising an Army of Prayer Warriors
David Kim, a Korean-American pastor, spoke fervently at each gathering, declaring that Taiwan was entering a pivotal moment in history. Over the past two years, his team visited Taiwan nine times, convinced that God was raising up a generation of set-apart warriors who would stand firm and bring the gospel across Asia. Kim called on young people to dedicate themselves as Nazarites, believing that God was lighting beacons of fire throughout Taiwan, signaling that He alone is Lord.
One key moment occurred on March 5th in Kaohsiung, where Kim emphasized that isolated city-wide prayers were not enough; a unified gathering in fasting and prayer was necessary. Kaohsiung’s World Games Stadium became a focal point for prayer. Pastor Nathanael Chen (陳培恩), youth ministry leader at Living Water Christian Church, confirmed that many pastors had received visions of tens of thousands worshiping in the stadium. Pastor John Cheng from Wuchang Church in Kaohsiung recalled Taiwan’s missionary history, believing the time had come for the stadium to once again be filled with worshipers crying out for God’s kingdom to come.
The movement also partnered with CONTEND GLOBAL, a ministry that had independently received a vision to pray for Taiwan. With Taiwan standing at the brink of war, yet carrying a divine calling to spread the gospel across Asia, this conviction fueled their prayers for Taiwan’s freedom and destiny.
Strengthening the Prayer Network
Beyond the mobilization of young warriors, this year’s Beacon Lighters movement saw unprecedented church involvement. In addition to the Go Team traveling across Taiwan, 40 local churches joined the intercessory prayer network, while 14 churches actively mobilized their youth to participate in each evening gathering.
Meanwhile, at Tainan Living Water Christian Church, the ANHOP (All Nations House of Prayer) Beacon Lighters Intercession Team continuously prayed for each city, providing spiritual covering for the gatherings and the Go Team’s entire journey. The Tainan Beacon Home Team initiated two overnight prayer vigils on March 1st from 1 AM to 6 AM. From March 3rd to March 8th, they hosted eight prayer sessions totaling 15 hours of intercession.
The Home Team at Tainan Living Water Christian Church, who—regardless of age and generation—stood watch day and night. They paid the price, crying out for this generation and waging spiritual warfare in prayer. They fervently sought God’s protection over the Go Team and each gathering, asking for revival to break through in this generation.
The Call to Total Surrender
Pastor Nathanael Chen referenced Psalm 110:3: “Your people shall be volunteers in the day of Your power; in the beauties of holiness, from the womb of the morning, You have the dew of Your youth.” Young people in Taiwan eagerly embraced this vision, believing that true revival begins with prayer, whether alone, in small groups, or in large gatherings. As Taiwan steps into its destiny, it is positioned as a key player in the revival of Asia.
At the first gathering on March 1st in Tainan, Pastor Kim pointed out that the gospel first entered Taiwan through Tainan 400 years ago. March 1st, or “March First,” symbolically represents the first to march forward. He referenced Luke 1:17, highlighting John the Baptist’s calling to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children and prepare a people for the Lord. He believes revival will begin among Taiwan’s indigenous peoples and expand across the island and beyond. However, he warned that Taiwan’s societal divisions are affecting the church, and only a united church can heal a divided nation.
Drawing inspiration from Daniel, Kim reminded young people that though Daniel lived in Babylon, his heart remained steadfast in God. The enemy’s strategy, he warned, is to make believers forget the living God, adopt worldly ways, and fall into moral compromise. Yet, even in a culture that opposes truth, God is raising a bold generation willing to stand firm in their faith, regardless of the cost.
A New Generation Responds
Beacon Lighters was more than a movement; it was a clarion call. From Tainan to Taipei, thousands of young people answered the call to consecrate themselves, pray, and stand for truth. As the flames of revival spread, Taiwan is stepping into its prophetic destiny as a light to the nations.
At a time when churches worldwide are struggling with youth disengagement, revival is breaking out on Taiwan’s campuses. Just as revival erupted at Asbury in the U.S., God is also igniting a movement among young people in Taiwan. Churches are beginning to see the significance of reaching young people, particularly college students. The Beacon Lighters Movement carries a special anointing for this next generation because revival must begin here.
This year, the Beacon Lighters Movement is igniting the flame of prayer among youth across Taiwan. On March 1, young warriors marched out from Tainan, connecting with indigenous youth in Taoyuan and Hualien. It has been a long time since so many indigenous youth have gathered together to worship and pray. All the youths long to respond to God’s love, to revere Him, and to stand as representatives in speaking to this generation.
Young people are willing to give their all for God. Many participants are completely poured out. Yet, it is a time of personal growth and divine encounter. When they stand together in closing prayer circles, there is a deep sense of unity in the Spirit, as they press in for revival.

The Beacon Lighters movement is just one piece of a larger story of revival unfolding in Taiwan. Decades earlier, Pastor Matt Chen and his wife Elizabeth answered God’s call to return to Taiwan—planting seeds of faith that would grow into a international prayer movement, inspiring a new generation to rise up in prayer and mission. https://voanews.xyz/pastor-matt-chen-a-familys-calling-from-the-u-s-to-taiwan/
