A Global Vision
The revival movement in Borneo is not just a local harvest of the tribes but part of a broader global vision. In 2016, Tom Hess of the Jerusalem House of Prayer All Nations prophesied that Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia would play pivotal roles in ushering in the fullness of revival and spreading the Gospel.
Ps Rachel highlighted the unique strengths of these nations:
- Indonesia: An army anointed with worship, solid in their relationship with God, reflecting the persecuted church in Revelations 2.
- Singapore: Known as the Antioch of Asia, with great maturity, global standing, significant reach, and impact.
- Malaysia: Continues to till the ground with the Malaysia United Firewall (MUFW), a nationwide prayer movement that began during Covid-19 and remains strong.
The Bario Revival 50th Anniversary in 2023
Themed “Spreading the Ambers,” the Bario Revival 50th Anniversary brought together Christians from various Borneo tribes in Miri, Sarawak. The event aimed to unite every people group in Borneo, empowering them to walk in their God-given identity. The anniversary featured representatives from Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia, as well as different generations leading worship services and prayer sessions.
The hope is that this movement will ignite a revival that will sweep across Southeast Asia and beyond.
The Role of the Ibans and Bidayuhs
For the revival mandate in Borneo to spread, Ps Rachel believes it must be passed down from the mountain tribes to the Ibans and Bidayuhs, the two largest tribes in Sarawak. The Ibans, known historically for their warrior spirit, are seen as a strong evangelistic force once redeemed.
During a personal silent retreat where she unknowingly checked into an Iban-themed resort, Ps Rachel felt deeply impressed by the Lord about the spiritual destiny of the Ibans. She believes their warrior spirit, when redeemed from ancient chains and intergenerational curses, will be mightily used by God to evangelize to the ends of the earth.
Preparing for Revival
Ps Rachel emphasizes that the 50th anniversary event is merely a continuation of what God is already doing. Christians in Miri have been gathering monthly to seek the Lord, receive His revelations, and prepare the ground for what is to come. These meetings are the fundamental building blocks for the revival that is expected to increase in October.
This revival movement in Borneo, with its strong local roots and global vision, seeks to empower the tribes of Sarawak and beyond to fulfill their spiritual destinies and spread the Gospel far and wide.
Invitation to the 2024 Tribal Gathering!
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Bario Revival, some 5,000 people gathered in Sarawak last year. About 50% of those seeking healing had complete healing (the remaining persons continue to receive healing), there were angelic activities, many people received their calling.
The Sarawakian revival first took place in Bario, Sarawak, in November 1973. Subsequently, it reached Taginambur, a small village in Sabah. The year 1973 also saw the Asbury Revival in USA. During the early 1970s, there was also a revival in Nagaland, Singapore, Guatemala, and many other locations of various countries. Such global revival repeated last year (2023)!
The 50th year or the jubilee year is important because it marks a spiritual reset. In continued gatherings, greater revival will be sparked by the convergence of intergenerational, intertribal, and international unity, awakening the subsequent generation of revivalists. We underwent a spiritual reset last year, and this year (2024) we are entering a period of transition! How we transition matters! There is an old generation of generals that have passed away and a new generation is emerging. Spiritual giants such as Billy Graham, Reinhard Bonnke, Jack Hayford, Loren Cunningham, passed away. Loren Cunningham passed away during the Tribal Gathering 2023. But, more than 120 churches from different denominations, districts, and countries partnered together, to usher in a greater revival, which would continue into 2024!
The 2024 revival mandate will continue with the theme, “SING A NEW SONG” (Isaiah 42). The Lord desires that this year we set our hearts in the posture of the ancient pathway, remembering and revitalizing the songs of the past so that we can sing a new song from the coastlands! Mark your calendar for the Tribal Meeting 2024 which will be held in October 10th–12th, at Miri Indoor Stadium.
