When Ps Sabrina Low was called to Miri, Sarawak, she had reservations. Her ideal location for missionary work was a country with a smaller Christian population, not a city filled with multiple churches. At the time, she was flourishing as a youth pastor at Cornerstone Community Church in Singapore, leading a dynamic group of 500 teenagers. She expressed her concerns and questioned why God would send her to such a place already overflowing with Christian influence.
Seeking Parental Approval
Years ago as a teenager, Ps Sabrina had been a very rebellious teen that backslid after receiving Christ at 10 years old. One day, nearly expelled from school at 17 years old, she almost wanted to commit suicide by leaping off a tall building. But, at the nick of time, the fear of God entered her heart, and she dedicated her life back to God, promising to let God have His Way, pleading with Him to prevent her expulsion. Miraculously, two weeks later, her accomplice was expelled, while she was given a second chance. And she turned over a new leaf. Completing her tertiary studies at Tung Ling Bible School, she was a corporate trainer and consultant for several years. Her senior pastor Ps Yang Tuck Yoong asked her two times over the period of several years to enter into full-time ministry; she kept rejecting the call until March 2010, when she saw a vision of two roads. One was gloomy and melancholy, with the name of her company on it; flowers were withering and trees were dying. The other was in full bloom, with fruits and beautiful vegetation, and it read “full-time ministry.” Ps Sabrina felt God’s strong calling, but, wanting confirmation, she asked God for Ps Yang to ask again. Exactly one week later, Ps Yang called with the same request. Another miracle was brewing. Ps Sabrina also sought her parents’ blessings before accepting the call as a pastor. Her mother, who had been hurt by the church in the past, was hesitant about her daughter pursuing full-time ministry and even threatened to disown her if she entered full-time ministry. However, during a prayer session, a friend told Ps Sabrina’s mother that Ps Sabrina had a divine calling and hindering her would prevent her from fulfilling her destiny. This powerful intervention changed her mother’s heart and gave Ps Sabrina the green light to pursue her calling with her parents’ support.
A Life-Changing Camp
One and a half year into her foray to full-time ministry, in December, despite it being her only week off, at the invitation of Ps Rachel Bulan in Sarawak, Ps Sabrina felt compelled by the Holy Spirit to teach a youth camp in Miri, with an expected attendance of 60-80 persons. Initially disappointed by the low turnout of only 18 participants, she began to question whether or not she had made the right decision. However, the camp turned out to be a powerful experience where the Holy Spirit moved mightily among the attendees and greatly impacted their lives. The spiritual awakening was so profound that these young people remained fervent in their faith long after the camp ended, serving as a testament to the lasting fruit of Ps Sabrina’s obedience.
New Wineskin
God was orchestrating a change and preparing the hearts of Ps Rachel and Ps Sabrina to establish a new church with new wineskin. While Ps Sabrina was in Singapore, she received a vision from the Lord at 2 a.m., revealing an upcoming revival that would start in Miri and spread to other regions. “The Lord said to Ps Sabrina, ‘You say, what good can come out of Miri?’ Watch, for revival is going to come through Miri. My winds are going to come and spread across the region.” This vision was confirmed when Ps Rachel had a similar encounter on the exact same day, leading her to join forces with Ps Sabrina in ministry. To confirm the call, God gave Ps Sabrina an impossible sign of an instant healing, specifically for a person with a leg problem, as requested by Ps Sabrina. When Ps Sabrina and Ps Rachel followed God’s strategy for church growth, the church expanded. “You’re not to focus on growing a big church, but on growing big people,” God told Ps Sabrina. In 2 August 2014, in Miri, she co-founded Cornerstone Community Church, Borneo, with Ps Rachel. After awhile, Cornerstone Miri grew to more than 300 members, and in Kuching, Sarawak, another church was planted in 2018.
In October 2023, Ps Rachel and Ps Sabrina were the leaders of the organizing team for Tribal Gathering, a three-day rally in Miri that brought together 4,000 faithful individuals from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei. During the event, Ps Sabrina spoke about the importance of receiving favor from the Lord rather than relying solely on our own labor. When these two elements align, our efforts and results multiply.
