Rev. Leow’s life is a testimony to the power of dedication, faith, and following the divine calling. An electrical engineering graduate from SUNY, Rev. Leow is not just a man of intellect but also a man of profound spiritual depth. After completing his engineering degree, he pursued a theological education, culminating in a doctorate. After completing his first theological degree, he was a church pastor for 11 years before becoming a lecturer at the Malaysia Bible Seminary (MBS) for 14 years. He was also appointed as the Director of Discipline (训导主任) in MBS. His life journey in the prime of his life in his fifties, however, was far from conventional.
Rev. Leow is a pastor who likes structure, efficiency, and systems. His meticulous nature is reflected in his ministry, where, as a church pastor, he strove to organise monthly church-wide evangelistic meetings and oversees the planting of a new church every year. On a personal level, his disciplined approach to life is evident in his ability to balance the demands of ministry with his family life, though having four children within 5 years.
Despite his methodical nature, Rev. Leow’s life took an unexpected turn when he began to experience dreams and visions that would impact not only his life but also the spiritual landscape of the USA and beyond. In 2016, during a sabbatical from MBS, Rev. Leow was a visiting scholar at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky—a small town with a population of just around 6,000 people. It was here that he received a profound dream about revival at Asbury.
As a seminary professor of an evangelical seminary, Rev. Leow was initially cautious. As a traditional church pastor, he believed that God’s revelations were already provided in the Bible. However, the dream was persistent and clear, leading him to seek to discern whether it has divine origin. The dream was about a revival at Asbury, a place that has not seen large-scale spiritual movements in recent years. Despite his scepticism, Rev. Leow followed the wind of the Spirit, setting aside his own plans and embracing the divine calling to pray for revival.
In the following months, particularly in March and April 2016, Rev. Leow was gripped by the spirit of intercession. He spent hours a day in prayer, feeling a strong burden to pray for an outpouring of God’s Spirit. This was the beginning of a journey that would see him return to Asbury in November and December 2017 for a seven-week period of continued prayer and reflection.
Rev. Leow’s obedience to the Spirit’s leading was further tested when he believed that God was calling him to pray in Asbury in person. He thought that he should do so by applying to be a pastor of a Chinese church not far from Asbury. However, God had other plans and didn’t allow him to divert his attention by such work. Rev. Leow has been a driven person for a long time, and couldn’t understand why God didn’t want him to put his skills to what he saw was good use. Shortly after he received his green card, the COVID-19 pandemic struck. Instead, God directed him to pray individually and also to participate in small prayer meetings in and around Asbury Seminary/University and to start teaching the book of Revelation to a small online audience.
The prayer meetings in Wilmore, though small, were powerful. Rev. Leow believed God that a worldwide revival could be birthed in this tiny town, and he continued to pray fervently for it. Seven years after receiving the initial dream on February 21, 2016, the seeds of revival were beginning to take root. God heard the prayers of Rev. Leow and many of his chosen intercessors, for Asbury and world revival. Rev. Leow’s journey is a reminder that following the Spirit’s leading, even when it defies logic or personal plans, can lead to extraordinary outcomes that have the potential to impact the world.
The story of Rev. Leow and the Asbury Revival is one of faith, perseverance, and the power of prayer. It serves as an inspiration to those who seek to follow God’s calling, even when God changes the plans of your life.
