A Life-Altering Accident and Miraculous Recovery<\/strong>
In December 2019, Dr. Andrew C.S. Koh met with an unfortunate accident and became paralyzed from the neck down. Bedridden as a a tetraplegic, his hands and feet were immobile. He underwent spinal surgery, and also received aggressive physiotherapy. Against all odds, Dr. Koh started showing improvements in the motor strength in his hands and feet and was once again able to walk. It was miraculous to say the least how he recovered. Forced to retire from his career as a cardiologist, he embarked on a new chapter in his life\u2014writing. What began as a way to occupy his time soon transformed into a powerful vocation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Andrew C.S. Koh\u2019s writing journey officially began in 2020. His first work, Memoirs of a Doctor<\/em>, traces his life from childhood to his retirement in January 2020. Over a short span of time, he published an astonishing 40 Christian non-fiction books, Bible study guides, and devotionals of all books of the New Testament, and some books of the Old Testament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Frozen in Time:<\/strong> In 2018, the author had the unique honor of being photographed with all seven original residents of their family\u2019s 1958 shophouse at 22 Chong Ah Peng Street, where their parents owned and operated a tinsmith business. Just before the shophouse was rebuilt in 2019, the siblings recreated a childhood scene from 60 years earlier, capturing a cherished moment of their family history in Tanjong Malim.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Balancing Medicine and Ministry<\/strong>
But this wasn\u2019t Dr. Koh\u2019s first radical change in life. Back in 1999, he took a three-year sabbatical from his medical career. He left Malaysia and moved to Auckland, New Zealand, to study theology full-time at Laidlaw Bible College from 1999 to 2001. His faith deepened during this time, as his passion for sharing the gospel grew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A deeply committed Christian, Dr. Koh regularly taught, preached, and studied the Bible. Even as a medical professional, he preached at Holy Cross Lutheran Church where he is a member, balancing his medical practice with his ministry. His calling extended beyond the operating room, as he used his medical career to help those in need both physically and spiritually. His medical profession had long been more than just a job\u2014it was his \u201ctent-making\u201d ministry, a means of sharing the gospel in the marketplace. Dr. Koh would often pray for his patients before performing any medical procedures, using his position to offer spiritual encouragement and prayer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Writer Turn Publisher<\/strong>
Despite years of writing medical articles for journals, Dr. Koh didn\u2019t pursue book writing until after his retirement in 2020. His newfound time and energy gave him the push to follow through on an idea that had been on his mind for years\u2014writing his memoir. Remarkably, in just over a month, he completed the first draft. The process of editing and proofreading took longer, but his commitment to excellence was unwavering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Koh\u2019s journey into self-publishing began on January 25, 2021, when he released his first book, Daily Devotion: The Gospel of Mark<\/em>, on Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing platform. The journey from idea to publication was not a simple one. Dr. Koh explained, “The first step was to write the book. This required inspiration, self-discipline, time commitment, motivation, consistency, perseverance, and persistence. I typically spent 6 to 7 hours daily, from 9 am until 3 pm, with a lunch and tea break in between. I had to brainstorm and sketch out a mind map with the book title, subtitle, table of contents, and outlines. After that, it was a matter of filling in the details and putting flesh on the skeleton.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Dr. Koh recounts, writing the book was only the first step in the process. “The next steps are editing, proofreading, book formatting, artwork, book cover, and publishing. Initially, I outsourced everything to a freelance professional, but after some time, I was able to do almost everything on my own. I used Grammarly for proofreading, Microsoft Word for writing and formatting, and Book Brush for book cover designs.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr Koh was very grateful to God that he won a place in the Malaysia Book of Records for Publishing the Most Books in Amazon in 2021.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

A Prolific Writing Career and a Place in the Malaysia Book of Records<\/strong>
Writing was not merely an activity for Dr. Koh, it soon turned out to be his second career. Within 36 months, he had published an impressive 33 books. His achievements have earned him a place in the Malaysia Book of Records for publishing the most books in 2021, i.e. 20 books. Some of his books became an Amazon bestsellers. His passion for writing culminated in one of his most notable works, ABCs to Amazon Self-Publishing<\/em>, a book that gives practical information, personal experiences as well as guidance for aspiring writers. It shows his perseverance and God\u2019s favor in his destiny.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Koh\u2019s ability to adapt, persevere, and thrive in various circumstances is a testament to his faith and dedication to spreading the gospel. Today, Dr. Koh is a multi-talented individual, excelling as an author, publisher, blogger, podcaster, Bible teacher, digital creator, cardiologist, and a medical director. His journey is an inspiring reminder that faith and determination can lead to extraordinary new paths. Through his books, he continues to teach and share the Word of God, impacting lives both near and far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
